Image maps and tooltips

September 12, 2008 by PapaLegba

For the recent website of the sp.a convention Visie ‘08 I needed a tooltip that would work on image maps.

Like most of the time I turned to Jquery and found 2 possible candidates: Jquery tooltip from bassistance and Jtip from Cody Lidley. Although these are wonderful with a lot of options, it took me a while to realize that they worked with every possible thing you can imagine EXEPT image maps. I don’t want to sound negative because I really like what they do, but this was a bummer though…

So I started searching for another solution and came across Walter Zorn’s tooltip Javascript. This one offers a lot of possibilities AND it works on image maps. Thank you Walter!

BMI Multilingual landingpages

June 3, 2008 by PapaLegba

Phew! It was quite a challenge creating the multilingual landing pages in Flash. Russian, Arabic, Turkish,… But in the end worthwhile the effort.

The banner campaign was also very nice. 3 banners on Trends working together using “localConnection” in Flash. A roll-over in one banner resulted in pages flipping in another banner. Lovely!

Tiense suiker

June 3, 2008 by PapaLegba

It’s been a while. But still I like to mention that the new Tiense suiker website has become very nice. The “sweet moments” part works really well. And I think it is a good way to brand the product. Also very clever is the header of the homepage, it is actually the access point for the “sweet moments”. Lucid studios is very happy to have been part of the development of this website.

The website of P&R Medical, producer of the patented Transflux contrast delivery system, is up and running. A clean design with a very sober colour pallet.

Wonderful 3d animations

June 3, 2008 by PapaLegba

Currently I am teaching Creative Design at the college “Zuyd” in Maastricht. A lot of students create 3d animation to incorporate in their projects. For this course I like to do a bit of research and while surfing I came across These 2 really beautiful 3d animations:

Ode to Summer of the Institute of Digital Media Technology in Shenzen:
I really like how to Chinese calligraphy is represented in the textures.

And “Show me heaven” created by Carsten Kuhoff for dj Hitch Hiker (yes, a golden oldie). I really like the film noir, Frank Miller style. Fantastic!

Flash in the background

August 24, 2007 by PapaLegba

Flash in the background, not as background since it is still an object in a div and not placed via the css ‘background’ element. This is something new that I haven´t tried before, so please feel free to post your feedback. Below, you can see how I made the construction.

Hello world!

July 27, 2007 by PapaLegba

A new design for the Lucid studios website ánd for this new blog. Keeping in mind the KISS-principle (Keep It Simple Stupid), we have limited the Lucid studios website to just one page. The most crucial data, i.e. our portfolio and contact information, are kept structured and to the point. So this way, ‘less is more’…

To keep the design alive, we have made our website ‘seasonal’. Every three months, there´s a new look! And autumn is coming, so do enjoy the last weeks of our Lucid summer!

Finally something I haven´t seen anywhere before: Flash in the background. Tested in WinXP/Win2000 – IE6/Firefox2/Opera9 and MacOSX – Safari en Firefox2. But since this is completely new, we would really like your comments in the next post.

Please give us your opinion of our site.
